About 4 months ago I responded to a question on one the search engine forums from someone who had a villa to let and had built a site but wasn't sure how to get it into the search engines .

Specifically he wanted to know whether or not he needed links and how to get them.

With millions of people owner property abroad whether it be Brits in Spain or Americans in The Caribbean the requirements for renting a property are  the same... The Property must be advertised to the the right audience.

Many turn to the Internet and decide that they will rent their property through it, using a  build it and they will come approach.

The truth is that there are a variety quick build website tools available but they wont get you visitors. They may let you build a nice 5 page site but is anyone ever going to visit it.

So how do you build your property renting site properly?

Firstly you have to decide what type of site you want to build. Websites come in two main flavours.

Mini and Content Sites

Mini websites are small brochure type sites that because of their lack of content are unlikely to rank at the search engines. Therefore you have to be prepared to use other means to promote the site

Content sites are larger sites >20 pages that because of their size can rank well at search engines provided they are built correctly. Content sites take time to build and to rank well and so are you need to be patient or again be prepared to use other promotional methods.

Consider a Broader Site Focus

Because you are renting accommodation many will just feature their property details, location and how to get there page. However with a bit more thought and a little extra work it can be turned into a mini travel guide of your location with the villa rental as part of it.

By doing it this way you can add extra content (which helps at the search engines) and pre sell your accommodation.  You can even list other rental properties and become a mini directory.
