Starting a Website

Starting a website, whether it's a personal or business website, doesn't require that you to spend huge sums of money.

You don't need to start by purchasing expensive web design software packages or web server space.

Tools and skills for Starting your own Website:

Access to a personal computer.
Access to the internet. -
Basic computer skills – Ability to create simple documents like letters using a word processor (Microsoft Word etc).
A Web page or HTML editor.-Download Trellian Webpage
Basic knowledge of HTML
Basic knowledge of website terms

How Much Technical Knowledge do You Need?

It's very easy to go overboard learning the latest web technologies, just as easy as it is to be totally put off by them.

The reality is that you need very little technical knowledge and certainly no more than the average person can grasp.

Did I write this page in HTML? No of course not! Could I? Probably but it would take me days and not minutes.

As an analogy you don't need to be an electrician to learn how to wire a plug or a seamstress to sow on a button. That is the the technical level you need to be able to use HTML and other web technologies.

How to Start Building a Website

Start slowly and don't expect to be an expert after a week. Don't buy all the ebooks or books and spend the next 6 months reading.

Begin by starting with the basics and build step by step. Only learn what you need to learn to progress on to the next step.

Before you actually start you need a basic understanding of the common terms so you are able to distinguish a website from a web server. This is covered in Website Basics .

Once you are happy with that you can start creating web pages and linking them together etc by following the make your own website course . The course is intended to cover the technical aspects involved with building a basic website.

Persistence

Starting a website isn't difficult, but it does require time, effort and above all perseverance. You can't make your website in day, not even a week. You will definitely take many months.
