How to Build a Wedding Website

wedding

Wedding websites or "Wedsites" are becoming more and more popular, and there are several companies offering ready made template wedding sites.

You create a wedding website in much the same way as any site but Wedding websites are a little different than a standard site in that:

  • They are usually temporary Websites that are in place for 6-12 months prior to the wedding and 6-12 months after the wedding.
  • They are usually built by people who have no real interest in building a Website other than for their wedding and hence they need to be created simply and easily.

There are three main ways to create/build your wedding web site:

  • Have it built by a web designer
  • Use a template website provider
  • Build Your Own

To help you create your own wedding website I have put together a 2 part case study that takes you through the process of creating a wedding website, and then after the wedding transforming the website into a family website if you want to.

Because most potential builders of this type of site are non technical in nature I have decided to build the site using WordPress.

WordPress is very flexible, free and requires no web authoring tools to use. It also allows for multiple authors and provides secure areas which will be important later as it transforms into a general family site.

The video below will give you a quick overview on WordPress.

2 Case Studies

Because many of you will be very new to website building and WordPress I've decided to do 2 case studies. The first uses the free hosted Wordpress at WordPress.com and enables you to get a feel for what is involved before you commit yourself to your own host and domain name.

Although you can develop the entire site using the free blog there are things that I want to include that are not possible using the free hosted blog.

The second case study will be an ongoing one that will evolve into a family website and uses a self hosted version of WordPress.

You should note that it is not necessary to follow case study 1 before you do case study 2 as they are totally independent of each other.
